The Hoxton:Renaissance Roots with Modern Vibes

I visited The Hoxton Florence near Piazza della Libertà and found it a brilliant blend of historic grandeur and playful postmodern design, split between a restored 16th‑century palazzo and a striking 1980s building. In the palazzo wing I loved the classic Renaissance charm — lime‑washed walls, original frescoes, and an arcade‑wrapped courtyard planted with lemon and olive trees. The newer block’s bold Memphis‑inspired lines and minimalist comforts felt refreshingly modern. Together they created a layered experience that felt both thoroughly Florentine and surprisingly contemporary.

Located just outside the busiest stretch of the historic centre, the hotel sits in a quieter pocket that still felt easily walkable to the Duomo, the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio — most main sights were a 15–25 minute stroll. I appreciated the calmer evenings and the local vibe near Piazza della Libertà without giving up easy access to museums, shopping, or nightlife.

On site, the dining and drinking options stood out. Enoteca Violetta felt like a relaxed neighbourhood wine bar showcasing local bottles and simple pairings, while Alassio channeled Italian Riviera comfort food with great coffee by day and fruity cocktails by night. The courtyard, lined with potted olives and lemons and centered on a three‑tiered fountain, was perfect for lazy breakfasts, aperitivi, and alfresco evenings.

Nearby favourites I noted include S. Forno (great for aperitifs), Wild Buns Bakery, amazing cinammon & cardamom buns (get one of each), excellent coffee and an incredible brunch, the winter bowl is not to be missed. At Mercato Centrale, head upstairs for an excellent meal, with so many choices. The best advice I can give - everyone order something different and share; you won't regret it. You need to visit Vivoli Gelateria, a family‑run shop since the 1930s . The affogato is amazing; order it with pistachio gelato & thank me later. Giardino Bardini is a beautiful green space with breathtaking views of Florence, take a blanket and a book and settle in.

When choosing a room there are so many good options, I’d probably book you a Roomy with a terrace for a romantic or design‑minded stay, we would definitely request the Renaissance wing for art and period character, and consider House Florence for families or longer stays. I also found the hotel genuinely family and pet friendly. They offer cribs to coloring books and warmly welcome pets.

Overall, The Hoxton Florence felt like a quieter, local base that will suit culture seekers, design lovers and families who value relaxed dining, excellent wine, and easy access to great bakeries and market fare.

Four Seasons:Timeless Tuscan Luxury &Five-Star Splendor

3 Michelin Keys

Welcome to Four Seasons Hotel Firenze — an enchanted city sanctuary where an art‑filled Renaissance palazzo and a historic palazzo frame Florence’s largest private park. Relax beneath original frescoes and sculpted reliefs, sip espresso under majestic trees, lounge by the open‑air pool or unwind with Italian spa rituals. The Uffizi and Duomo are a short stroll away; Tuscan hillside towns are within easy reach.

The Four Seasons Hotel Firenze offers 116 individually designed, sun‑filled rooms and suites across two historic buildings: the 15th‑century Palazzo della Gherardesca (79 rooms) and the 16th‑century Palazzo del Nero (37 rooms) set within the private park. No two rooms are alike; many categories mirror across both palazzos and numerous connecting‑room configurations are available on request. Bathrooms feature double vanities and separate tubs and showers. Officina Profumo‑Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella amenities are used exclusively, and specialty suites include Dyson hairdryers.

Now let’s talk about The Royal Suite, which is definitely the highlight of this incredible property. Located on the noble floor of Palazzo Della Gherardesca, the Royal Suite is 233 sq m (2,518 sq ft) of unparalleled opulence, a residence that lets you live like a noble Florentine family. Vaulted ceilings, frescoes, and stuccos surround an original Capodimonte Maioliche style ceramic floor by Ignazio Chiaiese in the gallery. The suite features a grand dining room for family and friends, a gallery with large windows overlooking the park, an additional intimate living room, a rich marble bathroom (oh the bathtub) and a king bedroom with breathtaking park views. The Royal Suite can connect externally to the Renaissance and Gallery Suites to form a two‑ or three‑bedroom residence. The blend of restored art and modern conveniences makes it one of the city’s most coveted accommodations. It is overwhelmingly beautiful and, as I experienced, genuinely life changing in its gorgeousness & while you nor I may not ever stay here (I mean it’s ok to be honest this is where Kim K stays) It was an honor to be able to see this masterpiece in person.

Moving On…

For dining, Il Palagio (Michelin‑starred) occupies the ground floor of Palazzo della Gherardesca with vaulted ceilings, Murano chandeliers, and terrace seating opening to the inner gardens; breakfast is served here. Al Fresco, which is seasonal, adjacent to the pool and gardens, offers relaxed dining under a majestic tree. The Atrium Bar, beneath a skylight, serves light meals, coffee specialties, cocktails (I had one of the best Negronis I have ever had there - Vintage Negroni) and afternoon tea with live piano in the evenings. In Palazzo del Nero, Berni Bar presents a vermouth‑and‑garden‑inspired setting, while Onde delivers a coastal, show‑kitchen experience with DJ sets and a terrace framed by lemon trees. In‑room dining is available 24/7.

The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is approximately 791 sq m / 8,511 sq ft, sits between the palazzos and includes ten treatment rooms; this includes a double VIP suite, relaxation lounges, an outdoor pool, and whirlpool. A tunnel connects the spa to the gym and its changing rooms, sauna, and steam room; the standalone fitness center features Technogym equipment and extended hours. Additional amenities include a hair salon, private‑dinner settings in the gardens and chapel, seasonal kids’ programming, and a shuttle service to the city center, though it is VERY walkable. The hotel is pet‑friendly and undergoing phased renovations with minimal guest disruption.

With a rare 11‑acre private park, onsite spa, original frescoes, and sculptural details, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze combines museum‑quality heritage with modern luxury in the heart of Florence.

W Florence

W Florence sits at the vibrant heart of the Centro Storico, a perfect base steps from Santa Maria Novella station, and the city’s greatest treasures, the Duomo, San Lorenzo, Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery. The hotel translates Florence’s artistic legacy into a refined, contemporary language: where earlier W properties leaned toward nightclub energy, this property favors long afternoons sipping Negronis, slow conversations and intimate moments that soak up the city. Interiors borrow from Renaissance materials, Carrara marble, travertine, fresco‑inspired geometry, yet the result is unmistakably modern, pulling the city into every corner of the hotel.

Each of the 17 signature suites and the thoughtfully imagined standard rooms tells a story of place. Marble accents, vivid colours and geometric motifs reinterpret Florentine icons, from Medici lions to gelato mandalas, while plush furnishings and the signature W bed guarantee comfort without compromise. The Penthouse unfolds across 115 square metres of dramatic living: panoramic views that sweep from the Medici Chapel to Mercato Centrale, sculptural curves, illuminated 3D arches and Carrara and travertine meet warm, rich woods. Here the minibar is a “cocktail station,” and the space feels equal parts gallery and private residence.

The reception area boasts a wall that is a custom mural: a Florentine Babylon garden that references the Medici menagerie, a playful collision of historic gift giving and contemporary Italian fashion. Art and narrative thread through the hotel. Art is woven into the design so that each room becomes a reinterpretation of the city’s past.

Dining at W Florence moves easily from lively to intimate. Illicit thrills have given way to refined conviviality: Tratto channels Florence’s gelato heritage into layered, design-forward dishes; Akira Back brings bold Japanese‑Korean creativity; the Courtyard Lounge offers a relaxed, open air extension of the social scene; The Lunch Club blends speed and quality for business midday meetings, and in‑room dining remains a polished, 24/7 option for private moments. And saving the best for last: Zefiro Rooftop serves seasonal cocktails and small bites with arguably the best rooftop panorama in the city, stretching from Santa Maria Novella to the Duomo, which feels so close you can reach out and touch it.

Practical comforts are thoughtful and thorough. Pet lovers are welcomed with the PAW program, beds, bowls and essentials provided on request. While A‑class amenities and hightech touches are discreetly integrated so modern needs never interrupt the aesthetic. The hotel’s location means you can step from contemporary design into centuries of history within minutes, and superior transport links from SMN station make exploring Tuscany effortless.

Overall, W Florence is a deliberate reimagining of urban luxury in Florence: a hotel that channels the weight of history into confident, contemporary design and social spaces built for lingering. It’s a place where the city’s artistry and modern lifestyle coexist. Where every stay feels curated, comfortable and deeply, unmistakably Florentine.
